Fuel problem when going around bends ?

Bericht door Hogan »

Hi there,
I have a very unusual problem that I hope someone can help with ?

I have a VW Transporter from 1994 1.9 Diesel, recently had a FULL revised fuel pump which was done at a main VW Dealership in Breda,VW TB.

When I drive along the motorway and exit via a large bending afrit,my fuel seems to get blocked ? On completion of the bend my Van will not accelerate, instead it stutters for about 300m before going back to normal.

This only happens when the fuel guage indicates 1/4 or less ?

I would appreciate any insight to the problem.

Thanks

Ola Hogan,

Welcome a this forum.

My first though was perhaps it only happens when the feul tank is running on empty and you're taking the bend to hard.

but I don't think thats the issue, is it?
perhaps you have to get back to the dealer, maybe they did something wrong?

What you describe , is a well know malfunction with the T4 : It is the level/gauge element in the fuel tank . You can access it inside the cab , between the two seats under the floormat , next to the handbrake . Remove the black round lid (3 screws) , and then remove the big white part . It's held in it's place with a big "nut" you have to turn counterclockwise to remove .
Usually the suction part of the element in the fuel tank shows small cracks (due to the old age of the car) , replacing it will solve the problem in most cases .
If needed , i have a few of these things secondhand available.

VW Crafter (model 2019) camper

Hi Pascal 141

Thanks for your advice on my fuel problem. Can you tell me how much the part would cost ? and where in Holland you are based ?
Further could this also be the reason for a top speed of 95kph ? I used to go at 110 easily.... or is that more to do with the 495,000km on the clock ? :-)

Regards

I want 20Eur for the part . I'm located in Belgium , not so far from Antwerp . The lack of topspeed of a 1.9D(probably 1.9TD ?) ( in your case after changing the pump) , could be caused by an incorrect timing , or incorrect fine tuning (basic settings) of the pump . Regardless the km's that the engine has allready done , it should still be capable of running 120km/u .
